Programs

mBODYed provides three different opportunities. For performers and students, we offer educational programs several times a year. For individuals interested in teacher training and certification, we offer 3-year programs that begin in January. For colleges and universities, we offer on-site residencies for your students and hybrid teacher-training options for your faculty.

Through the study of the Alexander Technique and Body Mapping, one can achieve greater heights in artistic expression and creative freedom.

  • An educational and teacher-training program in Alexander Technique and/or Body Mapping specifically focused for Musicians, Actors, and Dancers. We offer specific training paths, private lessons, performance coaching, educational classes and workshops, and one-on-one career mentoring.

  • Performers. Pedagogues. Students. Musicians, Actors, and Dancers!

  • Our body maps are our stories; they represent who we are as individuals, and reflect the cultural and societal ideas around us. Within our maps are our experiences of emotion, race, ethnicity, nationality, education, religion, gender, sexuality, and many other aspects that shape and inform our development. Our lived experiences are reflected in our movement; our movement tells the story of the life that we have lived.

At mBODYed, we honor our pasts. We approach teaching and learning, not from a place of brokenness or fixing, but on a pathway of refinement and growth.

mBODYed specializes in working with performers. You will receive training that is informed by Alexander Technique, Body Mapping, the most up-to-date scientific methods, and the tremendous performing and teaching experience our trainers bring that is unlike any other program out there.

After a few short months of the mBODYed training program, I have already had major breakthroughs in my musicianship. Many of these breakthroughs are mental and physical walls that go back as far as I remember. I am finding more joy then ever participating in the creation of music. I am extremely excited to continue this program, and I highly recommend it.
— Erik Stucky: Singer, Songwriter, Instrumentalist, The mBODYed Teacher-Training, Cohort 1

Shawn changed the way I think about my vibrato mechanics on the violin. I struggled for years with bicep tendon pain in my left arm, but Shawn’s guidance led me to discover something I’d never heard from a violin teacher before and I continue to pass this along to my students.
— Marjorie Bagley, Professor of Music (Violin), University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Faculty Instruction

All faculty participating in the mBODYed Performer training receive 14 private lessons per year. These are online and in-person when mBODYed is on-site.

Dr. Copeland brings nuance to every element of his teachings and performance. Having attended several of his recitals, masterclasses, and private lessons, I believe him to be a well-rounded pedagogue, constantly seeking to encourage self-awareness in his audience.
— Shawn Bellias, University of Southern Mississippi

During the mid-semester on-site visit, mBODYed will present lectures, general and topic-driven workshops, performance coachings, master classes, and private lessons.
